Heat rash is medically known as “miliaria” and locally called 'ghamoriya'. It occurs when sweat traps under the skin instead of evaporating and leads to tiny red itchy bumps on the back, neck, chest or in skin folds. It is common in hot, humid climates where sweat and friction build up, and harmless skin bacteria such as Staphylococcus epidermidis can make the irritation worse.
Â
Note: Heat rash is not the same as an allergic reaction. While heat rash is triggered by sweat and high temperatures, allergic rashes are immune responses to various allergens and can occur in any season, on any part of the body and usually short lived. Knowing the difference is key to choosing the right treatment.
Â
Simple Ways to Avoid Heat Rash:
Maintain Hygiene: Shower twice daily with a mild, non‑irritating soap to clear sweat and unblock pores
Choose the right clothing: Wear loose, breathable fabrics to allow sweat to evaporate
Cool down quickly: After heavy sweating, take a quick cool shower or apply a cold compress to soothe skin
Use soothing powders: Dust on prickly‑heat powder containing zinc oxide and menthol to relieve itching
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help regulate body temperature

If the rash lasts more than a few days, becomes painful or shows signs of infection such as increased redness, swelling or pus, consult a dermatologist for proper treatment.
