Every product shows you a front. The truth lives on the back — and what that truth does to your skin lives deeper still. Label Looker takes you through all three layers in seconds, against a 10,000+ compound scientific database, in language made for you.
There are three layers to every skincare product, and most of us only ever see the first.
The first layer is the one designed to be seen — the front of the bottle, the promises, the words chosen to win your attention: gentle, natural, dermatologist-approved. It's the invitation. It is not the answer.
The second layer is the ingredient list on the back — the one part of any product that has to tell the plain truth. It cannot exaggerate. It cannot round up. It names exactly what's inside, in order. For most people this layer has stayed locked behind a wall of INCI names and chemical descriptors, visible but unreadable.
The third layer is the one that matters most: what those ingredients actually do once they meet your skin. This is the layer the industry rarely shows you, because reading it has always required years of formulation science.
Label Looker exists to take you through all three. It reads the front for what it is, decodes the label in thirty seconds, and reveals the science beneath — turning a wall of names into clear, confident understanding. This is what it means to see beyond the label.
The front of the bottle does an honest job of getting your attention — that's its purpose, and there's nothing wrong with a beautiful promise. But words like natural, hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested carry no standardised definition. They're positions, not facts. The smart move isn't to distrust the front; it's to keep going — to turn the bottle around and meet the layer that can't be dressed up. Seeing beyond starts with the simple, powerful habit of looking past the part you were meant to see first.
Turn the bottle over and you reach the one section that is pure, objective fact. Take a word like fragrance, often written simply as "perfume" — behind it sits a bouquet of individual compounds, and you have every right to know which ones, especially if your skin has its own preferences. Or a preservative quietly keeping a formula fresh and effective for months: useful to have, and genuinely interesting to understand. None of this is cause for worry; it's cause for curiosity. And curiosity, properly equipped, is power.
This is the layer Label Looker unlocks instantly. Most people sincerely want to choose well — they've simply never had the key to the only objective information on the pack. Label Looker is that key. It reads the truth so you don't have to decode it, and the more you use it, the more fluent you become, until reading a label feels as natural as reading a nutrition panel.
Here is where seeing beyond becomes profound. Knowing an ingredient's name is one thing; understanding what it does is another entirely. That deeper layer is powered by IngrediPedia — a scientifically curated ingredient database developed by SkinBB with researchers from Swami Vivekanand College, Chembur. This is the part that sets the whole tool apart.
IngrediPedia is not a crowd-sourced wiki. It is not scraped from manufacturer websites. Every entry is built on peer-reviewed literature, dermatological research, and globally recognised safety frameworks — then kept current as new science emerges. That's the difference between an opinion and an authority, and IngrediPedia is firmly the latter.
Three principles hold it to that standard:
Rigour — evidence only. Every profile draws from peer-reviewed journals, dermatological research, and international safety standards. No brand-funded data, ever. The independence is the point: you're getting the science, not a sales pitch.
Depth — full context. Function, origin, skin-type compatibility, allergen flags, comedogenicity — gathered into one structured, readable profile. You see what an ingredient genuinely does, not what the front of the box claims.
Access — expert-to-everyone translation. The real breakthrough is legibility. IngrediPedia makes complex science equally useful to a curious first-timer, a seasoned enthusiast, a dermatologist, and a formulator — all from one trustworthy source.
IngrediPedia organises ingredients into clear functional groups — moisturisers, emollients, surfactants, preservatives, active agents and more — so you see the complete picture of what a product is doing for your skin. That's the third layer, made visible at last.
"The label is the only part of a product that always tells the truth. We built an entire science layer to help you see beyond it — and understand what it actually does."
Five effortless steps take you through every layer, front to depth:
Skincare is in a golden age. The global category is racing past $200 billion, formulations are more sophisticated than ever, and people are more engaged with their routines than at any point in history. The natural, exciting next step is for knowledge to keep pace with that creativity — and that's exactly what seeing beyond the label delivers. It hands the clarity that formulators and dermatologists work with directly to the person at home.
India makes this especially rewarding. With a vast, fast-growing range of homegrown and international products on the shelves, the opportunity to choose well has never been greater — and a tool that reads any label, from any brand, levels the field entirely. A first-time buyer in any city can now shop with the same fluency as a seasoned formulator. What once would have taken a research session now takes a single photo. That democratising of expertise is exactly what SkinBB set out to do, and every scan adds to an understanding that stays with you for every purchase that follows.
Label Looker is best understood as a bridge. Every scan transfers expert knowledge — curated by researchers, validated by dermatologists — straight to anyone curious enough to see what they're putting on their skin. We're proud of how accessible that is.
It's also an educational tool, and we're clear about what that means. Label Looker doesn't diagnose skin conditions and doesn't replace professional medical care. For ongoing or significant concerns — acne, eczema, dermatitis, allergies, infections or persistent irritation — a dermatologist is the right partner, and we'll always point you toward one. What Label Looker does brilliantly is prepare you for that partnership: when you understand your ingredients, you give your dermatologist sharper information and make more confident choices every day. Knowledge first, always.
The front was always the easy part. Now you see beyond it.
