Good science takes time. The concept of γ-glutamylcysteine as a glutathione precursor was not new — the molecule appears in standard biochemistry textbooks because it's what the GCL enzyme naturally makes. What was new was asking: can it be stabilised for oral delivery? Does the cell have a transporter for it in a supplementation context? And — most importantly — does it actually raise intracellular (not just plasma) glutathione in living humans?
Each of these questions required years of research to answer properly. The stabilisation problem required formulation science. The transporter question required cell biology. The clinical question required human trials with HPLC measurement of intracellular glutathione — a technically demanding measurement that many supplement studies skip in favour of easier (but less meaningful) plasma measurements. The Zarka & Bridge team did the hard version. That's why the paper matters.
